Machining of automotive components

Besides engine and transmission components, several other important components are manufactured within the automotive industry, such as turbo chargers, knuckles, housings and brake components to mention a few.
Sandvik Coromant offers solutions and tools backed up with in-depth application know-how. We have a global presence with dedicated engineering teams supporting the automotive industry with several high-quality solutions. A selection of productive solutions for some of the challenging features in components production are presented here.

Turbo chargers
A turbo charger – or turbo – is a turbine-driven forced induction device that increases an internal combustion engines efficiency and power output by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber.

Housings
A number of different housings are used in the automotive industry to protect and hold components together in sub-assemblies, for example flywheel and transmission housings

Knuckles
A steering knuckle is the pivot point of the steering system, which allows the wheels to turn.

Brake caliper
The brake pads are assembled in the brake caliper, and it is here they are activated during the braking action.
