Innovative technology saves fresh water in Pune

1 minute min read

Sandvik Coromant is committed to using engineering and innovation to make the shift towards a more sustainable business. We contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 through various CSR initiatives. On 10th Feb 2022 we inagurated a wastewater treatment plant.

In Pune, India a Japanese technology-based wastewater treatment plant - a Johkasou, is set up at two public gardens, namely Premlok and Babuji Golande in partnership with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.  This will save freshwater which was earlier used to maintain these two gardens.  Through the wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater flowing along the gardens is now recycled and used for garden maintenance.

10,000 litres saved per day

5000 litres of wastewater is being recycled in one garden daily. Both plants combined will save approximately 10,000 litres of fresh water every day and approximately 36 lakh litres every year.

Partnership with CHF India Foundation and Unicare Technology

Johkasou is Japanese plant based on the concept of 'Treat at the site, reuse at the site'. It is a high-performance technology with modular design that requires low maintenance and no full-time operator. It requires low energy consumption and has longer product life and faster execution without any issues of noise and odour. By saving fresh water and its distribution through this wastewater treatment plant we help reduce energy consumption and therefore reduce our carbon footprint. This CSR project was implemented in partnership with CHF India Foundation and Unicare Technology.
